Obituary:

Anna Mae Pobor Fonner was born in the Koehler coal camps, New Mexico. She passed away peacefully at the Village at Lowry August 21, 2013, in Denver CO.  She was spouse of Lt. Col. Edwin Fonner (deceased 28, November 2012).

She grew up in Northern New Mexico, graduating from Raton High School, earning a cosmetology license in Colorado in 1947, and owned Ann’s Beauty Salon in Denver, CO.  Anna Mae married Lt. Col. Fonner on April 2, 1948.  As a result, she had an opportunity to travel to and live in Japan, Germany, and many locales across the United States during Lt. Col. Fonner’s career as a U.S. Air Force pilot.  She also had numerous opportunities in the 1950’s to travel to many towns and villages in Yugoslavia, visiting friends and relatives.

 

She is survived by one natural son, Dr. Edwin Fonner, Jr., his spouse, Maribeth and grandson, Clifford Edwin Fonner.  She had an adopted daughter, Cornelia Shiver, Lochbuie, Colorado.

 

She took a lifelong interest in fashion design and the image of the modern woman.  She custom-made many of her own clothing lines after advanced schooling in tailoring and home economics at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX.  She was also a practiced culinary expert who took great pride in image, beauty, and culture.

 

Anna Mae was a devout practicing Roman Catholic supporting church and school life in all of her cities of residence.  She was a loving, mother of the ‘old school’ – discipline, manners, hard work, and honesty.

 

Services will place at St. Patrick’s – St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Raton NM on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 9:30 am.  She will be interred in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Raton, NM.
